WORKSHOPS

Information Systems Journal (ISJ) Paper Development Workshop at PACIS 2026

Event Details

Pullman Hotel Jakarta, Indonesia  (Studio 1-2 at 2nd Floor)
July 5, 2026 (8.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m.)

The proposed paper development workshop directly addresses the conference’s central theme “Leapfrogging the Future with Artificial Intelligence” by creating a structured forum for developing rigorous research that provides potential participants the opportunity to examine AI’s transformative impacts on organizations and society. As AI technologies rapidly reshape information systems across industries, there is an urgent need for theoretically grounded, contextually rich research that moves beyond technical implementation to explore critical organizational, managerial, and societal implications.

The workshop aligns closely with ISJ’s mission in several key ways. First, it emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of AI research by encouraging participants to integrate technological developments with social, contextual, and management perspectives. Rather than focusing on purely technical aspects, the workshop will guide authors to problematize urgent phenomena emerging from AI adoption—such as algorithmic decision-making, workforce transformation, ethical governance challenges, and shifting power dynamics between organizations and stakeholders.

Second, the workshop directly supports ISJ’s commitment to research that “has the potential to make the world a better place.” AI presents both unprecedented opportunities and significant risks, making it essential that IS scholars examine multiple stakeholder perspectives beyond purely economic considerations. Participants will be encouraged to develop research questions that address grand challenges facing organizations and society, such as AI equity, transparency, accountability, and human-AI collaboration.

Third, the workshop’s timing is particularly opportune given ISJ’s forthcoming special issue on “Theorizing the Impacts of Generative Artificial Intelligence“. By providing developmental feedback on emerging AI research, the workshop hopes to help cultivate high-quality submissions that advance theoretical understanding while maintaining the methodological rigor and contextual depth that ISJ values. The workshop will welcome both qualitative and quantitative approaches, ensuring that authors situate their findings within broader organizational and societal contexts rather than treating AI as merely a technical artifact.
