Event details
Location: Pullman Hotel Jakarta, Indonesia (Studio 3 at 2nd Floor)
Time: July 5, 2026 from 8:30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
The AIS Special Interest Group on Information Systems in Asia Pacific (SIG-ISAP) is pleased to announce its annual research workshop, to be held in conjunction with the Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS) 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Following the PACIS 2026 theme, “Leapfrogging the Future with Artificial Intelligence,” this workshop provides a dedicated forum for scholars focusing on the Asia-Pacific context.
The objective of the AIS SIG-ISAP 2026 workshop is to foster a dynamic scholarly community dedicated to examining how Generative AI (GAI) is reshaping Information Systems research and practice for sustainability in the Asia-Pacific region. We aim to catalyze open dialogue, exchange innovative ideas, and build collaborative partnerships that advance a new IS research paradigm at the intersection of AI innovation and sustainable development.
The AIS SIG-ISAP 2026 workshop, themed “(G)AI & Sustainability: New IS Research Paradigm and Practice in the Asia-Pacific”, seeks to explore the transformative intersection of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) and sustainable development through an Information Systems lens. As the Asia-Pacific region stands at the forefront of both digital adoption and climate challenges, this workshop will investigate how GAI works not only as a tool but also a catalyst for a new research paradigm. We aim to move beyond efficiency gains, critically examining how GAI can redefine systems, strategies, and policies to enable a leapfrog transition toward an inclusive and sustainable future.
We invite submissions that address this paradigm shift across four interconnected domains:
- Foundations of Sustainable GAI: Examining the environmental footprint of AI itself (Green AI), ethical governance frameworks, and novel human-AI collaboration models designed for sustainable outcomes.
- GAI for Systemic Transformation: Exploring GAI’s role in enabling circular economies, smart & resilient cities, sustainable finance (FinTech), and equitable healthcare systems within the Asia-Pacific context.
- GAI, Measurement, and Accountability: Investigating applications in ESG analytics, climate risk modeling, environmental monitoring, and transparent sustainability reporting.
- Regional Leapfrogging & Praxis: Focusing on case studies, policies, and implementation strategies that leverage GAI to overcome traditional development barriers, integrate local knowledge, and foster inclusive digital transformation specific to Asia-Pacific economies.
The workshop will provide a collaborative forum to build a foundational agenda for IS research that responsibly harnesses GAI’s potential to address pressing sustainability challenges in the region.
